The band and pinions we share are designed with the materials and processes to meet OE specifications. As legitimate replacement gears, they’re manufactured to the same requirements as the manufacturer’s parts. Compromising a component could mean compromising performance. And there’s no need to perform that when you’re able to look to our intensive gear inventory.
Gear Sets for Industrial Vehicles
Ever-Power new planetary reducers employ a floating sun equipment rather than a set position one.
The saying ”There’s nothing new beneath the sun’ certainly pertains to planetary reducers. And, while floating sun gears have already been around a long time, some engineers may not become aware of the huge benefits this unusual gear sun planet gear design can offer.
Traditionally, planetary reducers possess used a set sun gear, where the centre gear is mounted on or machined in to the shaft. When this fixed sun equipment revolves, it turns the planet gears to create movement and/or power. Ever-Power new planetary reducers, however, are having a floating sun gear rather than a set position sun gear.
Why a floating sun equipment? ‘In the planetary concept, the sun is the driver, or pinion, in the apparatus set,’Ever-Power design engineer Scott Hulstein stated. ‘Because the sun gear is in constant connection with the planets, it’s important that it’s perfectly centred among the three planets to be able to provide equal load sharing among itself and all three planets.’
Because of normal manufacturing tolerances however, a sun equipment which is securely fixed upon a shaft will intermittently have more load using one planet equipment than on another equipment Hulstein explained. ‘By permitting the sun gear to float, it centres itself among the three planets and generates constant, equal load sharing.’
Equal load sharing is just one of the advantages of this design. The floating sun gear provides ‘true involute actions,’ according to Hulstein. True involute action takes place when the rolling motion between the mating gears is as complete as possible. The advantage of this complete meshing of gears is certainly longer reducer existence, since less internal gear slippage means fewer broken gear teeth.
That does mean lower noise levels. When the sun gear is permitted to completely roll in to the planet gears, there’s less ‘rattling’ as one’s teeth mesh. In place, the Ever-Power product offers ‘designed out’ the apparatus mesh sound by allowing the sun equipment to float into place.
So why use a set sun gear at all? ‘Fixed sun gears tend to be used in true servo applications,’ Greg Pennings, Ever-Power Client Advocate, explained. ‘A fixed sun gear is essential when exact positioning and low backlash are an intrinsic part of the software.’ Ever-Power engineers, nevertheless, were less worried about low backlash and more interested with higher torque and/or lower sound applications.
Our planetary reducers with floating sunlight gears were designed to contend with parallel shaft reducers, where backlash was less critical,’ Pennings said.
Utilizing the floating sun equipment concept, the Ever-Power planetary reducers can easily exceed the torque ratings of similar sized and larger sized parallel shaft reducers, yet maintain a lesser noise levels.
Sun, Ring and Planet
The most basic type of planetary gearset is demonstrated in the figures above. The figure at still left shows a three-dimensional view as the figure at correct provides a cross-section. In this geartrain, inputs and output can be taken from the carrier, band and sun gears, and only the planet experiences epicyclic motion. That is the most common type of planetary gearset (apart from the differential) and it finds application in rate reducers and automatic transmissions. Invest the apart a cordless drill, you will most probably find this kind of planetary gearset directly behind the drill chuck.
Two Suns – Two Planets gearset
Two Suns, Two Planets
The gearset demonstrated above has two sunlight gears, and both planet gears (the yellow gears) rotate as a single unit. Sunlight gears (green and dark brown) can rotate independently of 1 another. The inputs and result can be selected from either sun gear and/or the carrier. High speed reductions may be accomplished with this unit, but it can have problems with low efficiency if not designed correctly.
Reddish colored sun input – purple sun fixed
Purple sun input – red sun fixed
The animations above show the ‘two suns – two planets’ gearset with one sunlight as input and the other sunlight fixed. Remember that the carrier rotates clockwise in the animation at remaining and counterclockwise in the computer animation at right – even though the sun rotates counterclockwise in both situations.
The gearset proven above is different from the preceding gearsets in that it is composed of miter gears instead of spur (or helical) gears. The ‘sun’ gears are the ones that do not go through the epicyclic motion experienced by the planet. And the differential can be utilized to measure the difference in quickness between two shafts for the intended purpose of synchronization. Furthermore, the differential is frequently used in automotive drive trains to conquer the difference in wheel velocity when a car encircles a corner.
